Sustainable transformation: new management team for a truly circular economy

+++ Interzero Group completes integration process

+++ New five-person management team gets to work

+++ New structure meets customer demand for integrated circular solutions

Berlin/Cologne. Sebastiaan Krol, Jan Kroker and Markus Müller-Drexel will be appointed to the Executive Management of Interzero Holding GmbH & Co. KG with effect from 1 August 2023. They will form the Interzero Group’s new management team together with Felix Held and Yi Guo, CFO of ALBA Group Asia.

Dr Axel Schweitzer established the Interzero Group upon leaving the ALBA Group a year ago. The Interzero name reflects what the company stands for: international “zero waste solutions” – for a world without waste. This strategic realignment allows Interzero to offer its manufacturing and retail customers with complete circular solutions and innovative plastics recycling, while simultaneously being a reliable partner to the recycling and waste disposal industry. Dr. Axel Schweitzer is also the owner of ALBA Group Asia, which offers high-quality recycling and waste management solutions across Asia and is based in Hong Kong.

“With our innovative capabilities and pioneering ideas as well as intelligent digital and analogue solutions, Interzero is one of Europe’s leading circular solutions providers. The new leadership team combines the expertise of our various business units and regions and illustrates our commitment to pursuing a holistic approach to the circular economy. Internationalisation and collaboration throughout the entire value chain and beyond company boundaries is also becoming increasingly important for a functioning global circular economy. Creating a Group-wide leadership team is a logical step that will keep pushing us forward,” said Dr Axel Schweitzer, Chairman and Shareholder of Interzero.

The Interzero Group’s new five-person management team

Sebastiaan Krol, CEO Interzero Circular Solutions (ICS), will continue to head up the operating business in the area of circular solutions and, going forward, will also be responsible for Group-wide issues such as digitalisation and corporate communications as well as marketing and brand management.

Jan Kroker is appointed CEO of Interzero Plastics Recycling (IPR) (currently the Interim CEO) and, will be responsible for plastics recycling, technology and plant engineering as well as HR development within the Interzero Group.

In addition to overseeing the dual system, Markus Müller-Drexel, CEO Interseroh+, will also contribute his experience and expertise of the circular economy’s regulatory framework and lead the Public Affairs division. He will also expand the Group’s research and development activities in the field of plastic recyclates.

Felix Held will remain in charge of M&A and strategic portfolio management.

Yi Guo, CFO of ALBA Group Asia, completes the five-person management team. He will be responsible for expanding the interfaces between Interzero and ALBA Group Asia as well as contributing his many years of experience in setting up recycling activities in Asia.

Clearly defined core competencies

The Interzero Group comprises three strategic pillars and business areas:

  • Sustainable circular solutions – analogue and digital – are the responsibility of our Interzero Circular Solutions (ICS) division under the management of Sebastiaan Krol (CEO) and Melanie Freytag (CFO). Our experts develop customised circular concepts that aim to avoid waste or use waste for new applications. This means that they organise global return systems for packaging, products, and materials of all kinds for our customers. They also develop and operate complete recycling solutions for companies and provide comprehensive consultancy services for waste prevention according to Design for Recycling.

  • Our Interzero Plastics Recycling (IPR) division stands for comprehensive expertise in plastics recycling, and is the market leader in Europe managed by Jan Kroker (CEO), Sebastian Waßermann (CFO), Uwe Küber (COO), Jacco de Haas (CCO) and Thomas Herkert (CTO). The division is a leader in innovation, covering all recycling processes and technologies, from intelligent collection systems and high-tech sorting systems to recyclate production and chemical recycling. This includes five high-tech sorting plants and developing and operating three in-house recycling and production systems for extracting and marketing high-quality raw materials for recycling.

  • The connecting element between both areas is the dual system Interseroh+ under the leadership of Markus Müller-Drexel (CEO), Michael Bürstner (COO) and Frank Kurrat (CSO). The innovative feature of this “recycling alliance” targets all companies that want to fulfil their legal obligation to licence packaging, but also take responsibility themselves for closing recycling and raw material cycles and thereby secure access to important recycling raw materials. In addition to consultancy and analysis services, the development of application-specific recyclates for customers via the company's own research and development centre complements the range of services.
