“Check for Recycling”: Interzero points the way to PPWR-compliant packaging¬
Berlin/Cologne. The countdown is on: from 12 August 2026, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will become binding in all EU Member States. With its online tool “Check for Recycling”, circular economy service provider Interzero is helping its customers meet their obligations in time – and strengthen their long-term readiness for future requirements. “For manufacturers and distributors of packaging, it is now high time to adapt to the new requirements and provide legally sound evidence that their packaging has been designed sustainably,” says Jonathan Scheck, Teamlead Packaging Consulting at Interzero. “With the new tool, we offer companies a straightforward way to be PPWR-ready by the deadline – and we also support them with all further implementation steps.”
Under Article 39 of the PPWR, from August companies must have a PPWR declaration of conformity, together with technical documentation, available for every packaging format they place on the EU market. In addition to compliance with PFAS limit values, they will in future need to demonstrate matters such as the material composition, recyclability and recycled content of their packaging. What sounds complex is intended to be made significantly easier with Interzero’s new tool: with “Check for Recycling”, users can create a data base for managing compliance with the PPWR quickly, transparently and with full traceability. The platform enables the assessment of recyclability and the documentation of relevant packaging data across a company’s own portfolio. With supplier data requests and the preparation of declarations of conformity for different recipient groups, “Check for Recycling” offers extensive functionality. Based on their own packaging data, users can create the required documents individually and conveniently send them to the relevant stakeholders.
To tailor the new tool as precisely as possible to customers’ needs, Interzero involved companies as test users during an early pilot phase. Writing instruments manufacturer STABILO, for example, supported the development process while also gaining valuable experience: “As a brand manufacturer, it is important for us not only to design packaging sustainably, but also to document it in a way that stands up to regulatory scrutiny – and that is exactly what we expect from ‘Check for Recycling’,” says Jens Weber, Teamlead Packaging Technology at STABILO. “For us, this is not just about using a single tool, but about the question of how we can bring together our packaging assessment, regulatory requirements and future documentation obligations within a consistent and traceable process.”
Interzero is committed to sustainable solutions: customers of “Check for Recycling” benefit not only from a digital and scalable solution when PPWR comes into force but can also optimise the management of their packaging portfolio over the long term. As a leading European circular economy service provider, the company brings extensive experience to the table. From workshops providing guidance on the complex requirements of the PPWR and advice on packaging optimisation through to the internationally recognised “Made for Recycling” analysis method, the company draws on its full expertise to support customers on their journey towards the circular economy of the future.
