Full power for sustainability: Interseroh successively converts energy supply to green power
Cologne. From January 2019, environmental services provider Interseroh will successively convert its energy acquisition to certified eco-power. This measure is part of the company’s climate strategy and is to contribute to halving site emissions by 2025. “Our entire business model is aligned towards a sustainable, climate and resource-protecting business approach,” says Markus Müller-Drexel, Managing Director of INTERSEROH Dienstleistungs GmbH. “We support our customers in improving their environmental balance – and we also want to make our own processes and business activities as eco-efficient as possible.”
With its environmental and recycling services, Interseroh already demonstrably contributes to climate and resource protection today. This is shown, for example, by the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT’s annual study “resources SAVED by recycling” for the ALBA Group, of which Interseroh is part. In 2017, according to the study, approximately 4.1 million tonnes of greenhouse gases were spared in comparison to primary production and approximately 30.2 million tonnes of primary raw materials were spared through recycling. To reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions as well, in 2017 Interseroh formulated a climate strategy based on its corporate carbon footprint. The key objectives: By 2025, the company wants to reduce its site emissions by 50 per cent. At the same time, optimisation potential in the area of logistics is being systematically identified. In addition, Interseroh wants to make an even greater contribution to emission reduction through the circular economy.
An important step is now the conversion to certified eco-power. The product of supplier DB Energie GmbH meets the requirements of the quality seal “ok-power”, which means that the power comes completely from renewable energy sources, promotes the energy transition and is obtained only from power suppliers that are not financially involved in nuclear or coal power plants. The forecast annual consumption for 2019 is approximately 10 million kilowatt hours. Thus, the entire energy requirements of the Interseroh headquarters in Cologne as well as the sorting plant in Walldürn, which forms part of the Interseroh portfolio, are covered.
