“Game Changers”: How Interzero and its customers are making a sustainable Circular Economy possible

Europe’s leading circular economy service provider has published its 2023/2024 sustainability statement in line with CSRD standards, along with the latest issue of its sustainability magazine “Game Changers”. Extensive data and figures demonstrate the relevance of circular approaches for climate protection – with practical examples highlighting successful implementation.

A strong commitment to the circular economy and climate protection: With its current 2023/2024 sustainability statement, the Interzero Group provides a comprehensive overview of its dedication to the environment and society – clearly showing the positive impact of circular added-value models. For the first time, the company reports in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
“As Europe’s leading circular economy service provider, we believe we have a particular responsibility to drive change towards sustainability,” says Dr Axel Schweitzer, Chairman and Shareholder of Interzero. “For us, this also includes the highest level of transparency.”

What actual impact do Interzero’s international “zero waste solutions” have on protecting the climate and conserving resources? How does the company ensure responsible governance and a supportive working environment for its employees? In line with European standards, the sustainability report covers all key environmental, social, and governance topics relevant to Interzero. Backed by scientific facts: According to a study by the Fraunhofer UMSICHT Institute, in 2023 alone, Interzero conserved more than 11.1 million tonnes of primary raw materials and avoided around 1.2 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through the closed-loop management of approximately 2.5 million tonnes of recyclable materials. This achievement also has a measurable global effect: In 2024, Interzero and its customers managed to push back Earth Overshoot Day by 7 minutes and 12 seconds.

“We’ve been voluntarily reporting on our social and environmental performance in regular sustainability reports since 2012. With the latest digital sustainability statement, we are deliberately taking the next step towards standardisation and comparability,” says Sybilla Merian, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Interzero. “In addition, our sustainability magazine aims to provide tangible inspiration for advancing the circular economy.”
Under the title Game Changers, the magazine presents people, ideas, and technologies that are driving sustainable change and making a climate- and resource-friendly circular economy possible. Readers will discover how the Lufthansa Group manages to stay “Ready for Recycling” even 10,000 metres above sea level, why Mathis Wackernagel of the Global Footprint Network sees circular business as a real competitive advantage – and how Interzero’s digital tools are helping companies manage their sustainability data effectively.
